Notes: Tribus Maecia founded 332 BC; area around Lanuvium in Latium.
The Gordiani connection to the Maecii has many problems due to the very unreliable nature of the Historia Augusta. Ronald Syme discards most of the names of Gordianus I's descent as fabrications.
Even Maecia Faustina's name and husband may be inventions. Thus Gordianus I's mother is more likely to be Sempronia Romana (S376), daughter of the ab epistulis Sempronius Aquila (S346)

impactinghis  ancestry and his and his son's careers. Not followed below.

which he dates between 198/209 and not 199-202 or 205-208 as Alföldy does..
Marengo, Silvio Maria: "Fasti Septempedani" in Picus 18, 1998, p.63-88 (cf AE1998-419) fixes M. Maecius Rufus suffect consulate to December AD81.
Oliver, James H.: "The Ancestry of Gordian I", in the American Journal of Philology Vol. 89, 1968 p. 345-347 comments inscription of Maecius Faustinus at Corinth (AE1968-475), that could support the
Historia Augusta's version of Gordianus I being born a Maecius and therefore that his daughter's name really was a Maecia Faustina. However, skeptics are still skeptic.
He also proposes that Gordianus I's adoptive father could be M. Antonius Achaicus from Corinth.

supports Syme in that his father was M Roscius Coelius cos 81 and that the names Maecius Celer came from his mother)
Scheid: Freres Arvales (1975) p.277-279 (§55 L. Maecius Postumus M57; agrees the arval of 69-78 is a different man than the arval of 86-105)
Scheid: Freres Arvales 69-304 (1990) p.27 and p.346-347 (§74 L. Maecius Postumus cos 98). Scheid doubts the attestation in 80 of Syme.
Also p.463 §162 […]atus may according to new reading be Maecius Marullus RE15a.
Settipani: Continuite (2000) p.136-144 on the Maecii and their relationship with the Gordiani and an attempt to connect most of the Maecii into a stemma. Thus proposing that RE15a
Maecius Marullus is a son of the cos 228 and a Cornelia Marullina, and that L. Eggius cos 126 is a grandnephew of L. Maecius Postumus cos 98. Possible, but conjecture.
Settipani: Continuite addenda  (2001/2004) p.10 attempts to derive the 4th century Maecii (especially M. Memmius Maecius Furius Baburius Caecilianus Placidus cos 343) from
Gordianus I and the 3rd century Maecii.
Stein: Präfekten von Ägypten (1950) p.110-111 (Q. Maecius Laetus cos 215)
Syme: Arval Brethren (1980) p.7-8, 15 note 21, 17, 24 and 27 on Maecius Postumus, father and son. Syme notes that the elder Maecius is also attested in 80 AD.

between the Roscii and the Maecii.
