Literature
Birley: Roman Government of Britain (2005)
p.181-183 discusses when C. Iulius Asper cos II 212 was patron of Britannia.
Cecere, Maria Grazia Granino: "Iscrizioni
senatorie di Roma e dintorni. Lavinium", in Epigrafia e ordine
senatorio, Tituli 4, Roma, 1982, p. 662-66
on inscription of Camilius Asper as curator
rei publicae at Lavinium (ARTICLE NOT AVAILABLE TO ME)
Cecere, Maria Grazia Granino: "Iulii
Aspri e Maesii Titiani in un documento epigrafico dell'ager Tusculanus",
in MEFRA, tome 102, 1990, p.139-157
on inscription making Maesia Titiana the great
granddaughter of C. Iulius Camilius Asper cos ord 212; with stemma p.157
Crook: Consilium Principis (1955) p.167 (§171a
C. Iulius Asper cos II 212, amicus of Caracalla and Geta)
Dietz, K. : "Iulius Asper, Verteidiger
der Provinzen unter Septimius Severus", in Chiron Band 27, 1997,
p.483-523 with stemma p.523, analyses in detail the many
inscriptions and concludes he was cos
suffunder Severus, not Commodus and
the career in PIR given to his son J334 belongs to Asper senior.
The
nomen Galerius becomes tribus Galeria instead.
Halfmann: Senatoren (1979) p.200 (§134 C.
Iulius Asper, cos II 212)
Leunissen: Konsuln (1989) p.135, 145, 216,
225-226, 309, 367, 373, 402 (C. Iulius Asper cos II 212),
p.135, 315, 326, 368, 373, 380, 402 (C. Iulius
Camilius Asper cos 212),
Mann, J.C.: "The Division of Britain in
AD 197", in ZPE Bd. 119 (1997), p.251-254 also (see Dietz) concludes
that the career of C. Iulius Galerius Asper in PIR
J334 belongs to his father J182. Article
superceded by Dietz detailed analysis.
Peachin, Michael: "The Case of The
Heiress Camilia Pia", in Harvard Studies in Classical Philology, Vol. 96
(1994), pp. 301-341 attempt to link the heiress to
the Iulii Aspri, as a daughter of either cos
II 212 or cos 212. based on J334 having the name Camilius. Seems a very
tenuous connection, since the date
of this case is unknown (under Severus or
Caracalla ?). Peachin's stemma (p.315) of the Iulii Aspri is now obsolete
(cf. Dietz).
PIR letter J with stemma p.147: assigns the
career of tr pl etc to Galerius Asper junior (cos 212) and thus makes him a
plebeian, while his brother was made a Patrician.
Dietz and Mann now assign this career to his
father J182, thus allowing J334 to be the same man as Iulius Asper, salius
Palatinus.
Raepsaet-Charlier: Nouvelles recherches sur
les femmes senatoriales du Haut-Empire romain, KLIO vol.75, 1993, p.257-271
Ramsay, W.M.: "Studies in the Roman
Province Galatia VI Some Inscriptions of Colonia Caesarea Antiochea", in
JRS vol.14, 1924, p.176 on inscription of
C. Iulius Asper Pansinianus II vir.
Rucinski: Praefectus Urbi (2009) p.224 (§38 C.
Iulius Asper cos II 212, PUR 211/212-perhaps 217)
Settipani: Continuite (2000) p.148-150 (stemma
of Iulii Aspri)
Settipani: Continuite addenda(2001/2004) p.11, 96 revised stemma adding
a Iulius Asper who flourished under Emperor Claudius.
Thomasson: Fasti Africani (1996) p.80-81 (§107
C. Iulius Asper, procos Africa 200/210), p.130 (§11 C. Iulius Galerius Asper
J334, q in Africa,
however newer scholarship now shows this
quaestorship to belong to his father J182.)
