doubts that T. Flavius Longinus, the decurion
from Dacia, was the father of the two adoptive
sons of the praetorian praefect, note different. He supports Syme's idea that
they were real sons
of the praetoran praefect adopted by one or
two T. Flavii (possibly freedmen, because of tribus Palatina) and a C.
Gallonius Fronto (an uncle ?).
The motivation could be that the praetorian
praefect was disgraced by Hadrian and his sons' future therefore uncertain.
